This year we are sharing some “eggcellent” decorating ideas with colourful dip dyed eggs! We will show you how to turn a white egg into any colour and let your imagination hop wild by mixing and matching beautiful spring colours.
Ombre plates and napkins are perfect mix of colours. Mix ombre partyware with pastel partyware, iridescent confetti and of some glitter. EGG PREPERATION
Boil your eggs (brown or white) in hot water until cooked. Brown eggs will have warmer and deeper colours, whilst white eggs will work better for lighter shades. Let the eggs sit for 10 minutes in hot water and then rinse the eggs in cool water. You can dip the eggs in diluted vinegar before dyeing them as this process may help the dye adhere better and more evenly.
DYEING THE EGGS
Regular liquid food colouring works great! Place hot water, 1 tsp white vinegar and your choice of food colouring into a cup. You can use the first colour to dye a few eggs, and then add additional food colouring to create new colours. Dip the egg into the coloured liquid and place the eggs on a cooling rack. You can pat the egg gently down with a rag before placing them onto the cooling rack to avoid dripping.
DISPLAYING THE EGGS
Nestle the eggs in a footed bowl filled with straw or create an ombre centre piece with your beautifully coloured eggs. Other fun ways to display your colourful eggs is to create a centrepiece by placing each egg on a candlestick or use a napkin ring to hold your eggs! EGG FUN
For a fun activity, your little ones can have an egg-in-a-spoon relay race! Outdoor games are key to Easter fun, but if it is too hot outside have an indoor race – see who can be first to push an egg over a finish line…with his or her nose!
